Agricultural Development
The Kairos Agriculture Development Program assists poor rural households and communities through:
• Training in technology & new agricultural development methods,
• Introduction of appropriate and sustainable technologies,
• Testing new breeds and varieties, and
• Agri-business development.
Greenhouse Project
Rural farmers in China struggle in many areas. They often have limited skills and poor facilities which results in low survival rates for seedlings, a short growing season, and unstable or low income that isn’t enough to care for their needs. As a result, there is no money left to develop their farms in order to try to increase future income. This frequently results in a self-perpetuating cycle of poverty for these farmers and their children.
Evergreen has been granted the use of an old greenhouse in the greenhouse area of Huangzhai in which we are introducing new high-yielding crops. Being in the middle of the greenhouse area also allows us to introduce local farmers to new technology and environmentally-friendly methods of pest and disease control. As part of our service, we provide free training and an agricultural information center. Through these professional interactions, we develop relationships that allow us to support these farmers and their families in other areas of life.
