Community Health Services: Many of the locations served by Evergreens' Community Health Services programs are recognized as the poorest in the area. In spite of sweeping changes in China's health care system, many citizens are still unable to pay for health care. This project exemplifies our purpose of using our professional skills to display the credibility and love of Christ, as it provides an opportunity for our staff to enter the homes of everyone within our service neighborhood, giving them a chance to meet people, discover their real needs, and respond accordingly. As a result, it allows our staff to not only address physical issues, but also family and spiritual issues. We currently have the opportunity to grow this program from two full-time local Chinese Evergreen employees to four, who will be supervised and trained by Evergreens medical team for the next three years. Expanding Community Services to Meet the Needs of Parents and Unemployed Adults: There are a growing number of farmers moving into the town of Huangzai (Yangqu's county seat), now comprising 40% of the population of the town. Many of these families are unemployed. Evergreen's Yangqu Community Center would like to expand its services to meet the needs of this growing population. To do this, the community center would like to add to its current services technical skills training, parenting classes, and an expanded library to include materials for parents as well as children. The goal of these projects is to nurture skills needed to compete in China's difficult job market, broaden parents' understanding of their children, and provide an environment for education and socialization. Wood-Working Shop: The vision is to create a small-scale woodworking shop (making wooden games, wooden toys etc.) as a business to provide employment and training for a few young men and/or families, set up in such way that the business would become sustainable and eventually be placed under the leadership of some local young believers. We already have a request (market) from some Dutch friends to supply them with a number of wood products. They will provide the training to sell the products and some marketing in Holland. We can expand the business into other countries as well, and sell the products in China too. As the business expands, more people can be employed. In a way, it is an ideal situation as we have a certain market with the potential to expand beyond it. Project projections: $14,700.00. Click here to read more about Evergreen’s Business Incubation.
