Evergreen realizes the value of short-term workers (10 days to two months).  Not only can they be of valuable assistance, but more than that, their experience here may be used of God to head them into full time work in China or elsewhere.  They also become enthusiastic supporters of our work who can share this vision with others in their home countries. We have therefore developed the following purpose statement:  An Evergreen short-term worker is one who comes to assist us in our work and current programs to provide expertise and/or manpower that we need, so that we can better demonstrate the credibility of Christ and create goodwill with those we serve in Shanxi while enlarging the worker’s vision for God’s work in China and encouraging them to consider long-term service.

All short-term workers must have:

• Expertise and/or experience in the area in which they are coming to work
• A mature attitude
• A willingness to work hard
• A clear goal and a clearly defined project with approval from an Evergreen team
• Christian faith, beliefs, and practice in accordance with our statement of faith
• Good physical and mental health (also no serious food allergies)
• Cultural flexibility and adaptability and willingness to behave in a culturally appropriate way
• A desire to serve the Chinese including a willingness to follow Chinese laws
• Interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
• Good English  (those who also speak Mandarin are most welcome!)
• Sufficient financial support to pay their own expenses and sufficient international medical coverage
• A satisfactory recommendation

In addition all short-term workers should be at least 18 years of age.  If a short-term applicant is over 70 years of age Evergreen may require approval from an Evergreen doctor and the applicant’s own doctor.
