As China increasingly interacts with the rest of the world English is a highly sought after skill. English serves as an international language and is used extensively in many professions.  On this level, we can assist those who are studying to improve their communication skills.

In the past, Evergreen's English team has run week-long English refresher courses for practicing English teachers in several rural centers around Shanxi. We are assisted by short-term teachers with fluent English. Other Evergreen members and staff organize short-term workers to run summer English programs for contacts in the areas where we live and work. During the academic year, we continue our involvement in areas in which we work during the summer. In addition, we teach various groups, medical personnel, and individuals in the three communities in which Evergreen's members live and work.

The opportunities for involvement in these communities through English teaching seem to be endless. Evergreen could use many more teachers of English as a foreign language, who are committed to working here long-term.
