From the beginning, Evergreen\u2019s Medical Team pursued transformation by working within existing structures and in cooperation with government health agencies to enhance the delivery of medical and health services in our communities. Skill transference was a top priority, with great emphasis placed on the training of local staff and leadership.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Clinical Work<\/h3>\n

Evergreen has had many physicians licensed to practice in China who provided excellent patient-centered care. Clinical care and health education have been provided in villages and in the out-patient department of several local hospitals. Evergreen doctors have also provided continuing medical education to local doctors and trained medical residents.<\/p>\n

Lactation\u00a0Consulting and Training\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

A Dutch midwife\/lactation consultant was involved in Evergreen\u2019s medical work from 2000 to 2019. She provided prenatal and postnatal care, taught antenatal classes, conducted lactation consulting training, and supported breastfeeding mothers. Rehabilitation<\/h3>\n

Rehabilitation work began in 2010 in the much-needed area of stroke rehabilitation and expanded to working through home health, community health service centers, and the rehab departments of local hospitals to provide care to patients and encourage therapists as they improve their skills. The rehab team has also contributed to the SOAR Project,<\/a> providing support for the orphans and their caregivers.<\/p>\n

Public\u00a0Health<\/h3>\n

From the start of\u00a0Evergreen’s\u00a0medical work, the medical team has conducted public health and epidemiological research and surveys to inform our\u00a0clinical and health education\u00a0work. The results help us to\u00a0understand\u00a0the situation and better plan\u00a0our projects to meet needs in appropriate ways. The public health\u00a0projects also give us opportunities\u00a0to work with, inform,\u00a0and train\u00a0local partners in research methods.<\/p>\n

Samaritan\u00a0Program<\/h3>\n

Evergreen\u2019s Samaritan Program has helped pay for diagnostic tests, surgeries, or medicines for selected patients already on the brink of poverty, and for whom medical expenses would have been financially crippling. Through our social worker and physicians, the Samaritan Program has also provided patients with compassionate care and sound guidance concerning their medical treatment.
